!WHO AM

I

NOW?

.2021.

After investing four years into an introspective journey, I’ve assembled an interactive conversation with myself through drawing, photographing, writing, and collaging. All the while, asking the same question: “who am I now?” By continuing dialogues between my past and present self, I am gaining insight into the self as a multilayered concept. Intuitive expression leads my practice and encourages experimentation, which reveals subconscious thoughts and messages.

I’ve found fulfillment in working with a balance of the mind, body, and soul because it has been a healing journey for me. Obscuring identities and implementing opposing symbols helps me incorporate personal truths while offering a broad spectrum for interpretation. The fact of resonating or questioning an idea is the starting point for many of my concepts.

I’ve gravitated towards Carl Jung’s theories about the conscious and unconscious mind. His concepts involving our ego and shadow have influenced my perception regarding balance through daily living. Exploring the unconscious through writing and dream interpretations has led me to playful experimentation.

My emphasis on obscuring identity creates parallels to the real world by acknowledging that we all relate to each other through the human experience but differ when representing what it can visually mean. The ambiguity of perception also reflects my desire to be comfortable in the unknown and encourages uncertainty and knowing. We all have the freedom to explore our truths.
